May. 7th, 2007 08:31 amI finished reading Sirens of Titan.
I think it made me more sane (in one sense) than I was before. If one book could be picked out from his work and made my favorite, this would be it.
It helped me put together a lot of disparate pieces from various threads of my thinking... I'm not sure he intended the book to do that, writing it may have just been his way of putting the pieces together himself. Then again it could be said that book and person come together when they are ready for each other.
By the way, I don't agree with all of the implications of the story, and this in no way diminishes the book one whit. He didn't "sucker" the reader by framing out hidden assumptions.
There's a certain compassion a writer can display for his readers through his characters, and Vonnegut shows his humanity well in this book.
