I'm not that much of a Spengler fan usually, but in this article[clicky], he's almost totally on the money, if you'll excuse the pun.
He touches on something that is crucial, right at the beginning.
The same amount that the T-men are willing to spend bailing out the banks could have been spent instead directly buying off mortgages.
But that would help the "wrong" people.
I'm no socialist, but as he said, if we are to have socialism, at least let us have socialism for the poor, rather than socialism for the rich, which historically has sometimes gone by a different name. A name beginning with the letter F.
Now the only thing left to do is for Gen X to figure out how to avoid being the ones paying the taxes on this. Cause hell if we're going to be hammered and abused stem to stern, birth to death by those Baby Boom wretches. I do look forward to seeing some ex-middle-manager type working in McDonalds though.
