If I were the one who decided how headlights should be designed on cars, I'd make them red.  This is because red light doesn't affect your night vision.  So after a small adjustment period, you'd be able to see even better with red headlights than white ones.  I might also add a UV bulb, because white objects "pop" more under UV light, so it would be easier to see the lines in the road.
Of course, red headlights are probably illegal, which is idiotic.
