not a stellar piece of film-making overall but the documentary "Bastards of The Party" contains amazing insights into the roots of bloods and (especially) crips in the failed radical-leftist political movements in sixties/seventies Los Angeles.
Yes, they are gangs. I think we agree that "the government" is usually a gang with nice clip art. But there are gangs that shoot people for laughs and there are gangs that just collect spoils and take out a business rival now and then. Obviously you don't want either one in the neighborhood, but there's a qualitative and quantitative difference.

Yeah, I mean I'm not political in the usual sense, but Obama seems to be clearly the lesser of evils in this election, without question. Which is probably why the media is trying so hard to derail him.
