The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them. -- Thomas Merton

that is true. but sometimes when we see them destroying them selves and others we have to switch up that "love".

to some extent... the important distinction is WHAT reflection are we seeing and loving?

Being "in love" is recognizing all the best within yourself because someone shows it to you. Whether its potential or walking reality, its only when someone holds a bright mirror up to ourselves that we begin to feel that we can trust and love enough to show them our darker self. And when we do, and they give us the validation of respect and trust in return, that is what makes us "in love"
