(no subject)

it's funny how people haven't become crazy anti-car freaks the way they have with drugs, since almost everyone knows someone that died in a car accident.

I have! I jaywalk out of spite as much as convenience. Bad habit, really.

Yeah, it's funny, until you chase the money. Then it's not so mysterious at all. This is classic McArchon influence.

In the first case, you have a car industry that has spent a century inundating society with its vision of a car for every family, to the point where urban planners and city policymakers made transportation planning around the automobile.

In the second case, you have a prison-industrial complex which has found the War on Some Drugs to be extremely profitable.

i've known more than a couple hard anti-car folks, though none of them for the public safety argument.

even more rare are the anti-pharmas and anti-work on the same grounds, despite mortaity disparities that could only be called pound wise, ton foolish.

well your talking about two different things really. No one is in the alley dealing cars or sucking dick for the next four wheel fix.

I've lost two people to car accidents, three if you count all my Dad's DUIs that landed him in prison.

The US isn't built around Heroin, and cocaine doesn't get you to work.

Les Djinn by Djuma Soundsystem

For some reason, I am convinced you will love it as I do

I come at it from a slightly different perspective. While I don't know the exact environmental impact of the drugs I use (multiplied by the times/amounts I use them), I do know the environmental impact of my car, and it's a burden that weighs on me every time I drive.

It's unfortunately due to the fact that people have been programmed to react one way to drugs and another way to cars (or, as others in the thread pointed out, to work, etc.). People are stupid. As usual.
