Politics is a celebration of the lowest areas of the Mammal brain.
Politically, the Republicans have a base that doesn't care what they say or do anymore, as long as it sounds "tough".
Since that base can sway elections, everyone kowtows to these idiot maniac Republican pundits.
The Democrats will never cease to suck the cock of the GOP until they develop their own base again. The last 8 years would have been a perfect opportunity to do so, but they were more concerned with short-term power than ideology or policy. And so now, every right wing pundit will call Obama a "communist" and will make him out to be some aberrationally left-wing person (even though he's really kind of an extension of Bill Clinton ideologically) until the end of time or the Dems fall out of power, which ever comes first. They will do this to intimidate the Democrats into obeying them even though they have no formal power at all right now.

I mean I'm sure in particular they'd rather be elected than not elected, which gives the people a tiny amount of pull over them. But then the media mediates that part of the game. (time to create a scandal!)
