"We hypostasize information into objects. Rearrangement of objects is change in the content of the information; the message has changed. This is a language which we have lost the ability to read. We ourselves are a part of this language; changes in us are changes in the content of the information. We ourselves are information-rich; information enters us, is processed and is then projected outwards once more, now in an altered form. We are not aware that we are doing this, that in fact this is all we are doing." - Saint Horselover Fat

there is so, so much in Time Out of Joint, a 50's novel, that it jostled even our Marxist critics from out their materialist slumber ("i'm Fredric Jameson, bitch !"). but, really, even his strangest novels are made entirely from STUFF, objects that can be handled, therein lies the Uncanny : the figure of the blank lp in Flow my Tears, fer examp. a-and Who knows the extent of the "conversation" between PKD and Burroughs? PKD refers to Nova Express and Burroughs says he was reading SF exclusively while living in London : "prerecorded biologic film," yo!

Thank you for this quote- from a Dick character I take it? Anyways, was a good reminder of the weird crap that's going around. It's strange to think that we can basically replicate the dynamics of black holes from across the universe on our own high-powered, sand-box processors, and try to understand the underlying causes and principles of those dynamics.
