it's funny how people haven't become crazy anti-car freaks the way they have with drugs, since almost everyone knows someone that died in a car accident.

I don't think its analogous at all unless you're talking about work=having a job

"work" is something that everyone does. Its work to brush your teeth. its work to eat an apple. its work to take a shit. if you don't want to have a job, you can in fact, find other ways to make a living, but you will always work. That's not at all a bad thing. most peopel keep jobs they don't like because its actually LESS work than trying to live without said job (or any job) I dunno about you but frankly I'm not fond of picking berries, scrubbing clothes in a stream or pounding my own grains into flour just sos I can (eventually) have a loaf of bread. hell some days I don't even want to bake the bread myself.

I'm totally into the pioneer spirit and i love doing things the "old fashioned way" by scratch sometimes but the reason we have so many conveniances nowadays is because opting out of drudgework leaves us more time and energy to pursue loftier goals.

Such it is with cars. The reason we have cars and they are so popular is because, well that's what works best for most people. I can take my whole family of four kids and a husband in my minivan to go visit our extended family (mine are an hour drive, his are 5hours drive) and still go back home within the same week. Couldn't do that with horse and buggy and frankly I don't want to think about toting my 28lb toddler everywhere in order to get some food. Ugh.

I don't know about everyone else but I LIKE cars. I LIKE work. Frees me up to do more interesting things.
